Statement of Need
There is a clear need for an educational activity which addresses new innovative approaches to the treatment of spasticity encountered in persons with cerebral palsy. Review of scientific peer-reviewed literature as well as clinical experience demonstrate a correlation between severity of spasticity and high morbidity and mortality seen in individuals with cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities.
Both primary care as well as specialist physicians, and also nurses, physical therapists, and other health professionals need to have a better understanding of current state-of-the-art approaches to the treatment of spasticity encountered in persons with cerebral palsy, which can in turn lead the health professional to a more rational selection of treatment/management strategies and better outcomes for their patients
Conference Goal
The overall goal of this conference is to improve clinical knowledge, skills, and competency of those health professionals that provide services to adults and children with cerebral palsy who also demonstrate spasticity.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss the use of intrathecal baclofen in the treatment of spasticity encountered in persons with cerebral palsy.
  • Discuss the use of botulinim toxin in the treatment of spasticity encountered in persons with cerebral palsy.
